Anne Rice's creation the vampire Lestat has been portrayed by two very different actors in two very different films....and now....I shall compare the two...for the sheer purpose of ending my boredom...
Lestat from Interview With The Vampire
(As played by Tom Cruise)
Interview is (in my opinion) the better movie and yielded the better Lestat. Even though I hate Tom Cruise in every other movie he's been in...and I think Stuart is much better looking. Cruise got the personality (and hair) right. I think he wouldn't have been near as convincing had the backdrop and directing in the movie not been as fantastic as it was. (Along with the amazing acting of others in the cast, but that's another post in and of itself.)This Lestat created the perfect mix of arrogant, distant, and misunderstood.
Lestat from Queen Of The Damned
(As played by Stuart Townsend)
Queen Of The Damned was a jumbled mess of a movie, it completely destroyed the plot line of the book and deleted many of my beloved characters (Daniel, Louis, Gabriel, etc.). Stuart probably would have made a better Lestat had the plot line been more well written and the atmosphere altered to seem less...shallow. In some pictures I see him more as a Nicolas than a Lestat in appearance (would a wig be too much to ask for?). I loved his catlike movements and his accent. The soundtrack to the movie was a big plus.
