"Soft, soft, it falls down upon us.
Enchantment dwells outside our window, so early in the morning. It bites the feet that tread without socks, but kisses them softly, despite.
I cannot understand it-" Danica broke off, turning to face her companion. "How can it both be warm and cold, pleasure and pain, love and hate? At once?"
"I do not understand it, at all--"

Amalyn was lost in thoughts of her own as she wandered through one of the fields, looking without seeing across the snowy expanse.
Many things had been on her mind of late, pushing to side even sensible reminders her brain formerly would issue her to eat and sleep.
Stopping by a long dead tree trunk, she swiftly sat with a swish of her cloak on the snowy ground.
"Why-?" she asked no one in particular, staring up into the pale blue sky. The light hurt her eyes, but she looked anyway, hoping for any sign there might be.
After a while, she turned her eyes to her toes, now blue with cold and sighed. "I guess there is none, then-"
Standing, she shook the snow from her cloak and stamped a few times to bring the circulation back to her legs. At a brisk pace, she set off back towards the flat over the shop in Durem, a slight edge in her posture as she willed her body to carry itself home.
