Please guys, you really don't need to thank me for voting on your avatar arena entry biggrin
My name is Amalyn - I am an artist, photographer, and commenter on the impact of technology and the Internet on its own culture, the lives of its users, future implications, as well as current global society as a whole.
Additionally, I have narcolepsy and spent much of the past ten years online in various forms.
I have keen interest in tech related to self-monitoring of sleep patterns, memory and cognition, emotional and physical response to stress, user interfaces involving biofeedback, patterns of thinking, and concepts of reality and perception.
Some days, I am not as succinct as others. I ramble at times, I whine at other times, and sometimes I am just plain nutty. Cashew more than peanut though.
I am a rabid Potterverse fangirl - not to the point of clubbing people over the head for not also partaking of the serious, but of the variety that will sit and argue the boundaries of canon versus deductive reasoning with others when so given a chance in real life. Severus Snape and Luna Lovegood are two of my favorite characters, followed by Hermione Granger.
I would absolutely love to work on the visual continuity of the film adaptation of Deathly Hallows, as small errors drive me up the wall, and I would really, really love to have a chance to help ensure that the fandom gets the film treatment we have all dreamed of for the final movie of the series.
I am incredibly dedicated to perfection in quality rather than quantity, and have loved the attention to details present in PoA and OotP - I would love to see in person the sources used for the on-screen version of both the Marauder's Map and the Daily Prophet. I was really sad that I could see more detail on my DVD of the bed in the room at the Leaky Cauldron in PoA, as it looked like it had incredibly intricate carvings. I tend to drool over stuff like Noble Collection replicas - wistfully dreaming of a time when I can afford to random-splurge and buy the Marauder's Map to pour over and soak in the details and workmanship.
Growing up in Northern Ontario probably has warped my sense of aesthetic a bit -- bleak winter sunrise over fresh black slag heaps around Sudbury, decaying Soviet era buildings in northern corners of Latvia, dried up tailings ponds with trees struggling to reclaim the landscape, the wasteland ghost town of Chernobyl, romantic notions of wanting to escape to Arctic-circle seclusion near an active glacier and rugged coastline to meditate for half a year or three... Juxtaposed with my earlier ambitions to be a particle physicist, an astronaut - but that was pre-narcolepsy developing/being identified [and subsequent loss of my previously outstanding mathematical abilities as the condition further developed - I wonder sometimes if they could medically induce me into a coma for a year, if I would wake up with my prior level of functioning - in terms of math and linear logical reasoning - fully intact, if it is simply a function of my body never getting enough restful, restorative sleep or whether the synapses themselves have been increasingly rewired/destroyed].
I still dream though.
