Story thus far- Saaya was born in the far east city of Utapue. Born into a family of warriors, she learned how to wield both magic and sword at a young age. Like many of the towns and cities in the eastern lands, her city was dependent on itself, and she and her family were sent many times to defend the city from the barbaric Reivar tribe. The Reivar tribe specialized in a special type of dark magic that they used to steal and copy other types of magic. Most of them were insane, killing their own kind to steal their powers, but there was one who was powerful enough and smart enough to lead them. He led their attacks on Utapue, his forces growing stronger and stronger with every attack.
On their last mission to defend Utapue against the Reivar's attack, Saaya's younger brother, Reizo, was called forward to help. Reizo was a skilled magic user, but with his peaceful and timid nature, Saaya knew he would not cope well with the fight. It was his first mission outside of training, and Saaya protested, but their forces were dwindling, and they needed all available forces for the next defence.
At the appearance of the Reivars, Reizo grew frightened and ran. Saaya went after him, only to find him surrounded by Reivars. She grew angry and attacked, but her attack was warded off by a strong magical barrier. Reizo glared down at her from above, his eyes now turned a heartless black, a sadistic smirk on his face. The Reivars had used their powers to turn him into one of their own kind, and now he turned against her. They fought. Saaya was at a disadvantage; she had lost her sword, and her magic was no use against Reizo's dark attacks. She lay on the ground, broken and useless, waiting for Reizo's final blow to kill her off. She saw, in her mind's eye, his arm raised, Saaya's own sword in hand, coming down swiftly upon her. And then she saw nothing.
When she awoke, she was still laying where she had fainted. Reizo was gone, as were the Reivars. Her sword was at her side, and although she was weak and bloody, she had not died.
She was the only one who hadn't.
