#25- Whitey-chan Joins The Conversation

I sat awkwardly in the living animal chair, squirming a bit, and waiting for Ahisutah’s return with our tea. I flexed my sore fingers. They were all warm again from the heated fire in Ahisutah’s home but my knuckles were still pink from being held in snow for so long. I clenched my hands into firsts again and pressed them on my knees, looking anxiously around the room.
I then noticed movement coming from Whitey-chan’s bedroom. I stretched my neck to see more into the room. I could see Whitey-chan’s legs plopping onto the side of the bed. He stood up from the bed, yawning, and walking farther into the room so that I couldn’t see him anymore. I heard sounds of drawers opening and the sound of cloth being pulled out. Was Whitey-chan putting on clothes? I wondered to myself.
I thought about Whitey-chan’s mother, Ayutipha. Her hair was probably silver, almost like Whitey-chan’s. In fact, the more I noticed it, Whitey-chan’s hair seemed more of a silvery white than a ghostly white. He was defiantly related to her. I nodded to myself with agreement.
I heard Ahisutah walking back to the living room. She came through the knothole with two steaming cups of hot tea in each of her hands. She stepped slowly to the table and placed the two cups carefully on it, sliding mine right in front of me.
“There we go.” She said quietly, sitting back down on her seat.
“Thank you.” I said, about to pick up the cup with my hands and quickly pulling away as the cup burned my fingertips. I winced and flapped my hands in the air to rid myself of the burning sensation. I grimace at my own stupidity.
Ahisutah chucked, “Careful now Ayumi, this tea just came from the pot.”
I gave her a pained smile, putting my fingers to my lips.
Suddenly, Whitey-chan came out of the knothole for his bedroom. He had a sleepy expression on his face and rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand. He was wearing a loose white tunic that hang down to his thighs with wide elbow length sleeves. He had a small pair of white shorts on which barely could be seen because of his long shirt. So he was putting on clothes, I concurred.
Ahisutah turned around to his direction.
“Ah, you’re awake,” she greeted him, “is your energy back?”
“Yep, Granny.” Whitey-chan said lazily.
He had barely slept for an hour and his energy was all back? I looked to Ahisutah for answers. She turned to me and noticed my confused gaze.
“Angels don’t need sleep, Ayumi,” she said, “just regenerations for when they use massive amounts of energy such as what White Lights did to get to your world. They close their eyes but are totally aware of what’s going on around them.”
“Oh, is that so?” I said, finally understanding more about Whitey-chan. I turned my gaze back at him.
He looked at me, smiling and shuffled hastily towards me. As he got right in front of me, he sat down with a plop onto the hard, wooden floor. He looked up, glancing at me then to Ahisutah, waiting for us to resume our discussion.
