On Friday January 9th, Nick Moffitt was given in school suspension for drinking milk in class. The teacher never told him to stop and he was not obnoxious about it. The teacher proceeded to call security and he was dealt with promptly and unfairly. He was cited for disruption of the learning environment and the suspension was upheld by the great Mr. Merrell. However, research performed by Mr. Moffitt's personal advocacy panel found evidence on page 27 of the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook that contradicts the administrations actions. "The removal of the student occurs only after teacher or administrative
interventions have failed to end the disruptive behavior. However, nothing herein shall preclude the immediate removal of a student for behavior that might warrant suspension from school"(SR&R p. 27). How many people consider Mr. Moffitt's actions worthy of suspension from school? He has expressed sincere feelings that, had he been asked to stop and notified that his actions were indeed disruptive, he would have halted all unruly behavior immediately.
