Man, a quarter of a year since my last journal entry. Guess I'll take a few minutes to finish typing it up before it gets too much bigger. o_0
Wtf... Trek apparently got a Bronze fishing trophy in Durem for the month of January 2008. I got less than a hundred thousand points worth of fish for that month too. O_o Must have been a slow month that month. o_O
I've been considering going for a trophy in Gambino. For future reference, here's how many points I earned in five filtered A quality buckets:
Bucket 1 - 12:34 - 12:41
Bucket 2 - 12:41 - 12:51
Bucket 3 - 12:51 - 1:00
Bucket 4 - 1:00 - 1:09
Bucket 5 - 1:09 - 1:16
90 fish - 1640 points - 42 min
The point values were taken from
my stats page.
Tne top fisher in Gambino in February that wasn't a bot fished with 188,054 points. Assuming 30 days in a month, that's about 6268 points per day. At a rate of 1640 points per 5 buckets, I would have to do 4*5=20 buckets a day to fish that. That's four to five hours a day of fish. I don't know if I could stand fishing for four hours a day, even if I did have the time.
Let's say I were willing to settle for bronze. The 10th place bronze fisher for Gambino did 110174 points. That's about a more reasonable 3672 points per day. That would only take about 10 buckets a day to do. I can muster that if I stay away from SSBM. Maybe I'll go for it sometime this summer.
In high score news, here are the new scores I've gotten since my last journal entry:

I'm also now 3rd in the total CSP rankings for this game, with 4,633.12 total CSP, and also 5th on the medal table, with 27 bronzes as of this post.
After some searching, I found
a list of all the exact staff ghost times. Not that it matters, since I only have a few left to beat. The ones I have left don't use slider strats, which is why I have a hard time with them, especially since I can't DTD or do other advanced tactics.
It's really a shame this game doesn't let one record and replay
all their ghosts, like MKDS, or (better yet) allow one to save their ghosts to memory cards, like AeroGauge.
As for Mario 64, I now have my first Mario 64 video up on youtube. It's a
weird glitchiness video. I had the N64 sitting on top of my VCR at the time, and I think the heat from the VCR was making the N64 overheat, thus causing this glitch. The VCR is on the floor now. I've also started embedding my most recent YouTube vids directly into my profile. Embedding on all my videos is now enabled. I thought that might help me get some more views.
And for the first time in nearly a year, I have new SSBM vids up! Unfortunately it's all old footage, but it's the first time most of the footage has been released. First up is
this lolol, and the second one is my
weirdness compilation video. I uploaded both in honor of April Fools day. Enjoy! ^_^
What's interesting about the first of these two videos is the music. Some of my first YouTube videos had background music in them from country artist Garth Brooks. YouTube apparently has utilities that can analyze the acoustic signature of any given video and compare them against various copyrighted songs. If the utility detects copyrighted material, it deletes them. Get too many strikes against your YouTube account, and your account is permabanned. Yhea, you're welcome for the free advertising.
rolleyes What's interesting about this is that many media companies (such as Sony) have realized that it might actually be beneficial to allow users to keep copyrighted content. According to
grantasticdesigns, some media companies are choosing to allow their copyrighted content to be used in our videos, but in exchange, they display ads underneath the video where users can buy the song/video in question from either amazon or itunes. They must have done the math and figured that the increased revenue from the ad sales might make up for the non-existant revenue they would lose to licensing. Not that it takes a rocket scientist to figure this out (honestly, would the average YouTuber be willing to spend tens of thousands of dollars to use a 30-second sound clip? I think not.), but you know how the media companies are kinda slow about this stuff.
So the upshot is that the media companies get their free advertising and increased sales from advertising, and we get to keep our YouTube content. So everyone wins. Woohoo! ^_^
I encourage everyone who has an itunes or amazon account to browse YouTube and purchase music they like through those links whenever they see them. Show the record companies that it's worth letting us keep our content!
heart In other news, for those of you living in a cardboard box since last November, Circuit City has gone out of business. No small wonder. Ever since the first Circuit City opened up in my end of town (where I used to live anyways) nearly ten years ago, I've never been really impressed with their stores. Best Buy was larger, more impressive, and the prices were better. And let's not even talk about the customer service; I can't even tell you how many times I would have an employee there would chirp a polite "Hi, how are you doing?" to me, and not ask me if I'm finding everything I'm looking for, or if they could help me with anything. Gee, thanks. Between that and online stores such as newegg (where I get a lot of my computer equipment these days) it's no wonder Circuit City went under. But despite my cynicism, I'm sad to see the company go. I always had a soft spot for the underdog companies.
I mentioned a few journal entries ago that I had finished reading C.S. Lewis' 'A Space Trilogy'. It's a sci-fi-ish series telling the story of Dr. Ransom. Like many of C.S. Lewis' works, the books have a lot of parallels with Christian mythology and lore, some of which I didn't really catch on to until later in the books. It took me an embarassingly long time for me to catch on to the english equivalents to the Old Solar names for planets and other heavenly bodies, which made it more difficult to tell what was going on. I want to go back and read it again, but alas, I had the books on loan from a friend of the family and had to return them...
I added new songs to my playlist in my profile. Oh, and I made a house recently. It's pretty much done, although I still need to pick out wallpaper (suggestions welcome). Feel free to stop by any time! Oh, and I hope Santa was good for everyone this Christmas!
TREK GOT A NINTENDO WII A FEW DAYS AGO!
rofl Actually, I didn't. My mommy did. She played the wii at a friend's house and apparently had so much fun she wanted one for herself. So I bought her one. The only game we have so far is the Wii Sports game that comes with the system, although my mommy wants Wii Fit so she has more of a motivation to do yoga at home. I played Wii Sports for a while, and while it was kind of fun, I can see it getting old really quick. Since I have no intention of getting Brawl anytime soon, and will want to wait until I get my own system so I can keep my data when I move out anyways, I'm going to stick with my older systems for regular play.
Stay tuned for more! Hopefully it won't be another three months!
