Imagine walking through yesterday’s food when you’re trying to leave home to go to school, imagine having food like rotten apples and cold pizza on the road and in the busses. Well this is where it will be in the future if you don’t make a difference. Over many years scientists have researched that over a quarter of a ton of food is wasted every year in the city of Toronto. Could you imagine having wasted over a quarter of a ton? Well it’s not only you, everyone here is a victim of this crime let me show you.
Remember the last time you wasted a perfectly good apple or a cookie because you were too full or some other crazy reason. Most people think “Uhh” it’s just one apple or “Uhh” it’s just one cookie, well imagine that every Canadian thought that way. That kind of thinking is what leads to this much of wasted food. Let me tell you something, one third of the one ton of food you throw out a year is edible. Visualize Feeding and entire country for a day or feeding a family for over seven long years. That is a lot of food that we waste a year in just the city of Toronto imagine every other province and territory. Calculate every other big countries like the United States or London. That’s well over five tons and one of the reasons why we have recycling bins. If the garbage can’t handle that much waste where does it all go to?
This habit of constant waste of food is harming our environment. Here I am going to let you in on a secret, you know how I said one third of the food we waste is edible well where do you think the other two third goes. Well let me tell you, the leftover food is sent to a landfill to be dumped and of there is too much food then they will try to find a new place but how long can we be in this circle, not long as I can tell. Soon no space is left in the earth for landfills and we will be living in our own food, which is not as fun as it sounds. This is not even a food crisis anymore but it’s a global crisis. They won’t even realize it until it’s too late that they should put an end to this problem. Most people think the government will take care of it and the government thinks that this problem will just go away. But in reality this problem won’t go away, chances are we will because most people don’t want to live in their own food. I don’t think we have any planets with the exact same air or gravity like earth. Also that food we live in will soon have mold and like in cartoons they will slide away.
As our world accelerates into the future we leave more and more homeless people the die of lack of food, water, and shelter. But today we will focus on food. It’s funny how the government has more pressing issues to deal with than problem. If anyone asks them they say they made food donation and they contributed enough a need to focus on our country’s needs. Well everyone who knows the facts knows the perfect solution. One way to dramatically decrease starvation is to send our food that we waste. This is an excellent solution because most food that Canadians waste is still in the box/wrapper or it is untouched. This is only one solution, and what most countries are doing like food drives aren’t bad too make a difference we should give more.
Even though I keep on talking about how people should be on their food I am not that perfect myself. I occasionally throw some good food here and there but the difference is I regret it afterwards and I pretty sure other people (do to but not in the way I do). I am trying my way to stop that bad habit. This isn’t a problem that can be fixed over-night, the only way is to keep trying until we reach our goal to stop wasting so much food. So remember the future is in the hands of this generation and how we choose to crate it will determine how we soar up or become our own downfall.
