In 7th grade I was a library kid. I always have been really, but 7th grade was the start of something. I was new to Springfield Middle School and people thought I was weird. I was already pretty antisocial to begin with. One of the only things to keep me from having a mini breakdown was the librarian. I would come into the library every day, usually more than once, and read. I mainly read A Series of Unfortunate Events. After a week of coming in, the librarian started to comment about me being such an avid reader. From then on, she would pat me on the back and ask me if I wanted to help around the library. I was not really shy around teachers or staff and I was bored, so I agreed. I started to shelve books, clean the library, do cataloging and inventory. I loved it. I felt important. Soon, other kids wanted to do what I was doing, but the librarian didn't really trust them like she did me. So, at one point I've been helping out for almost a whole semester, when I discover this book. I see a smooth lime green spine with MTV and Pocketbooks written near the bottom. I pull the book out and the cover is very simple. At first, I don't really even see the title of the book, but then I notice it, sort of camouflaged by the weird color of it. I love the word wallflower, so I just felt this book would be amazing. I took it and went straight to the computer to check it out. I took that book everywhere. I was the first person to check it out in the school since it had been purchased 2 years earlier. Many people began to ask me, "Why do you read that book so much?" I tried to explain it to them, but mostly they gave me that, "Sorry, this is way over my head and you are boring me" look. So, I kept it to myself. Eventually two of the more popular girls read it and told me it was sick and wrong and so was I. I never cared, still don't. For the rest of middle school I kept borrowing the book. It became worn and I had to repair it. Eventually, I bought a copy of my own on Amazon. I don't even know how many times I have read it by now. I created this styleboard as an homage to the book, but as a way of sort of putting a face on what being a wallflower is. We're shy, observant people who love to read. (Maybe some people would see my board as some sort of "indie" thing, but it isn't. What exactly do people consider indie anyway? I always thought it meant independent, but hey, who can even keep up with fashion these days?!) Some of the images are interpretations of items from the book, like a harmonica necklace, magnetic poetry, a record player, a typewriter and a few old typewriter keys... The novels are The Virgin Suicides, The Bell Jar, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. These books are very much along the lines of a wallflower. Some of the characters have mental illnesses, but mostly they are just these shy misunderstood people who are not entirely blessed with the ability to socialize well. I'm hoping that explains my styleboard and the reason behind creating it.
============================================================
I am 18, going on 19, and I am below average height. I have a silly boyfriend I call Bunny. I am in my first year of college. I want to help people, work with kids, teach about sex and art and work with non-profits and charities. I also want to write novels and illustrate/write children's books. I love to watch and critique movies. A lot. So much so that I have a Rotten Tomatoes account! (I am Blues Ridden Cowgirl) I love to talk about myself and everything else. Fashion is lots of fun for me. I am pretty unique. I don't really have a style icon. I do have a movement that I base my style on though! Riot Grrrl from the 90s. I love Liz Phair and Sonic Youth and Veruca Salt.

The Fog of Wear
Made by shipwreckedblue on 09/11/09
The title is a play on the phrase the "fog of war" with a much lighter tone. It refers to confusion and feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes putting an outfit together is a little overwhelming. The color scheme is also gray, black and white to mimic fog. Military style pea coats and accessories are also a part of this styleboard theme.
Metallic Fever

The metal side of 70s Disco... metallic that is.
Just Like a Woman
Made by shipwreckedblue on 08/20/09
This is based on the Bob Dylan song. One side has more professional clothing for an adult woman, while the other side is more fun and youthful. It captures both sides of a woman's style, now and in the 1960s. ..."she aches, just like a woman, but she breaks just like a little girl."
The Perks of Being a...

California Dreamin'

This is an interpretation of the song: a conflict between the dreary, straight-laced, winter clothing and the free and sunny California style clothing.
