Note: this post goes with the entry about the demons of the seven deadly sins, and the following about the human "demons"

Amidst the attacks of the seven demon tribes, there is a smal oasis of hope for humanity. Known simply as "The Order," it was conceivably once an organized religion, perhaps praying to some long forgotten god, or some other high holy ideal. After years standing agains the infenral menace that surrounds it, humanity grew too weary to believe in any great benevolent being, and dying at something other than the hands of a demon was the highest ideal anyone bothered hoping for. With this attitude, The Order itself became the thing of worship, and its purpose shifted from praise to protection. Too many people have become hopeless in the current state of the world to be active members of The Order, and so it is comprised of the devout few capable of carrying hope, and bent on doing all they can to ward off the everpresent evil from destroying the remnants of humanity.

Priests the priests of the order are truly the few and the proud. People of such divinely pure souls that their very spirits are strong enough to turn Demons and resist their powers. By focusing their spirits, the priests are able to cast beams of radiance that can turn away demons, or even burn them to ash on contact. They are also able to resist the allure of demons of lust, and slow the spreading of a demon of greed's midas touch. The one weakness of the priesthood is that most of their number are so devout in their belief that they never learn the ways of battle, only ever turning to violence in the presence of the infernal. The warrior priest is truly an oddity.

Paladins not the rigid holy crusaders normally called paladins, in the harsh times they exist in, paladins of The Order are simply the greatest fighters willing to stand beneath The Order's Banner. They often carry holy symbols, or other items blessed by priests. These items contain some small part of the priests' spiritual energy that the paladins can focus themselves. most holy symbols are made to cast the beams of divine energy that priests can focus through their bodies. Weapons, or other equipment are made to have the same destructive effect on demons that the beams have, but only on contact. allowing paladins greater effectiveness in battle, as their blades or gauntleted fists merely need to glide through ash, and not the tough flesh of most demons.

Followers Most of humanity are followers of The Order, but only on a superficial level, respecting and coveting the protection they grant against demons. however, at least as many people are sceptical of The Order, unsatisfied with the protection, and more interested in some kind of organization that can fight off demon kind, and not merely stave off the inevitable.

Temples of The Order are rarely used as places of worship, and are more often havens for the few travelers that dare venture through the ravaged world, or as makeshift hospitals for victims of the demons that can make it inside city walls.
