Just so you know, this chapter 1. is rated G because I have to start it normally and 2. is more of a prolouge than a chapter. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
Chapter One The Way a Seeker Seeks What He Seeks Narrator
The wind whipped her waste-length hair back so that the honey yellow tips looked like they were on fire and the earth brown roots looked like there was an earthquake. The soft soil beneath her bare foot molded to fit every time she moved. Her name was Amanda Weltings, but that was Miss Amanda Weltings, Queen of the soccer field to you. She took three steps backwards; ready to make the corner kick that decided the no shoes game. It was currently tied, the teams evenly matched. The other teams’ offense was too quick for their own heavy defense, but their offense creamed the other’s defense and offense easily. Just the way she liked it. Basically evenly matched teams, and with hardly any time left, everything was put into her hands. Miss Amanda Weltings, Queen of the Soccer field, put in the spotlight, again.
She quickly stepped forward and slammed her foot into the soccer ball. She was widely known in the area for her extremely hard kicks, all of the other team ducked. Her smile widened. Perfect. They were falling for the plan that was reserved for only these dire moments, her ‘team’ had trained as hard as they could to be able to resist the blinding sting of the ball as it came down after being pounded into the air. It went strait to Cyenna, their smallest and fastest player. Cyenna quickly darted around the few defense-men who had gotten their acts back together, slipped past the goalie, which had put in a last ditch effort to grab the ball five feet in front of the goal, and scored.
The crowd went bonkers!
OK, so it wasn’t that big of a crowd, not as big as they were used to anyway. Amanda lived in an area where everybody knew everybody else, no matter where you lived. Pretty much everybody loved soccer, so at the beginning and middle of the year, they all got together and created a soccer tournament. This was the second tournament of the year, and it had just started. They all met at the local park, which had its own fields, and split everybody into teams. At school, who had won and the latest games (added to professional sports) were practically the only talk of the school. Everybody knew everybody else, after all.
There was hardly every a time that Amanda’s team didn’t win the matches. Every single tournament, Amanda’s team was the same. She was one of the summer, or second half, team captains. Her team was not only friends on the field, but practically inseparable off of it. Her best friend lived right across the street from her and if anybody ever saw one without the other, they would seriously think that something tragic had happened. The two best friends, Amanda Weltings and Nikki Brook (that’s Miss Amanda Weltings and Miss Nikki Brook, Queens of the soccer field to you!), had adopted each other’s families as their own. Whenever you asked Amanda how many sisters she had, se would respond, “I have one younger brother, two younger sisters, two adopted older brothers, and four adopted younger sisters.”
Amanda ran up to her friend and hugged her. The rest of the people, girls and guys alike, bowed at their feet, saying, “We’re not worthy.” Amanda and Nikki giggled. All of the other teams would sportingly watch all of the other games when they had time, which they normally did, considering the games were on Saturdays, and cheer for their favorite players along with the families of the people playing. At this point, those other people, friends of all of the people on the both teams, ran up to them, giving them all great bear hugs. There was a big dog pile on Cyenna and Amanda had to tug her out, along with the help of Cyenna’s father and the rest of Amanda’s team.
“Nice game guys!” called Marri, a raven haired girl from the team they had been playing against, the green team.
“Yea, it was close today, just the way I like it,” Amanda called back. She tugged off the pink jersey that Nikki had jokingly made their team wear to reveal her black Evanescence shirt.
“Aw,” complained Nikki, “don’t take it off. I want to have our team take a picture together before all of the dye fades from all of the bleach that we have to put on them.” Even though Amanda and Nikki were the closest friends, they were so different that sometimes people would wonder how they stayed friends for so long. But they had never fought once so, everybody lived and let lived.
Amanda rolled her eyes, “Ha ha,” she said sarcastically, “Of course I’ll keep it on, Nick, after all, Pink is my absolute favorite color.” They both burst out laughing. “So, where are we going today?” asked Nikki thoughtfully. There was silence for a second then Nikki’s face screwed up into a grimace. “I don’t want to go to the library again.”
Amanda laughed, “No we went there yesterday and we can’t go to the movies, we were there last Sunday. Maybe we-“ Nikki cut here off.
“Why can’t we go to the movies? It’s Saturday we haven’t been to the movies in a week.” Nikki’s face lit up, “After we see a movie we can go to the mall!” She squealed. “I have it planned out now! We can go get dinner with a bunch of friends, see that new movie what’s-it-called that just came out, and then have a great big splurge at the mall!” She threw her hands up when she practically shouted ‘splurge’ to emphasize her point.
“I really don’t want to waste all of this month’s allowance in one sitting thank you very much,” said Amanda, a bit too tightly.
“Oh, don’t be such a prude, Manda,” said Nikki, punching her friend lightly in the arm.
Amanda grabbed her arm, as if hurt. “Oh, Nick, you wound me.” Her voice absolutely oozed sarcasm.
“Alright then, it’s decided. Hey everyone,” Nikki raised her voice slightly so that everybody else could hear, “we are all going to meet at Friendly’s tonight at six. You know the one by the theater. Then we’re going to meet at the AMC to watch a movie at eight thirty. “
Everybody cheered.
Oh boy, this was going to be a good summer.
