Day 10: Gift
I had never even seen it coming, I was blissfully unaware to everything around me that even after it hit me I still hadn’t noticed. I spent all week finding the perfect gift for you, I just wanted your day to be as special as you.
I made you a special moments jar, and I took all the things you loved and placed them in it. Like the picture of us at the beach, and the one where you had decided to hop into a mud hole only to realize seconds later that it was a lot deeper than you thought.
Inside it there was also the very first love letter I wrote you, with a list of all our silly pet names for each other, and the yearbook page that had a picture of us with the caption “High school sweethearts!”
Looking back neither of us thought that a love like ours would last, but here we are 7 years later, all grown up and still in love. I even went and had your name done in calligraphy because I knew how much you adored it. Making sure the lid was on tight and that everything was in the jar that needed to be, I made my way out of my apartment and down the street to the walkway.
Traffic was terrible, but I didn’t mind the thought of you loving your gift made up for some of the waiting I had to do. The worse traffic got the more annoyed I became. Crossing the first two intersections without any problems I got to the last one, I was almost to your house. Clutching the jar to my chest I kept glancing across the road.
Checking my watch I waited impatiently for the light to turn green before running across. The car that hit me couldn’t stop, so don’t blame them, their brakes went out. I didn’t even feel a thing, I just hope you’re happy and that you know I loved you till the end.
