There are five kids in the quad hanging out.
“Hey did you read about that killer in the newspaper?” Kimmy asked.
Tony, Lisa and Susan looked at her; Jay was reading a book under the tree.
“You mean the one killing all those teenagers over in Middleton?” Susan asked.
Middleton was the next town over.
“Yeah, isn’t that where you guys work?” Tony questioned looking at Lisa and Jay, who was still reading his book.
“Huh?” said Jay, finally looking up from his book.
“Yeah,” said Lisa interrupting Jay,” We work there and it’s so creepy, I get scared that I’m going to be next…”
Then Jay’s friend Taylor runs up to them, “Hey guys!!” yelled Taylor, “What’s hot on the gossip train?”
“Nothing much,” everyone replied. “Just that crazy killer over in Middleton.”
“Ohhh,” said Taylor, “I think that guy is pretty cool, have you heard about how he kills them and what he does with their bodies? It’s wicked!!”
Susan and Lisa share a disgusted look.
“We heard.” they said.
“Hmm?” Jay said curiously.
“How does he kill them?” Jay asked Taylor.
“Well, first he...” started Taylor.
“RING!” The bell interrupted Taylor.
“Sorry!! Got to go, don’t want to be late, I’ll tell you later okay?” Taylor yelled over his shoulder as he dashed to class.
THREE DAYS LATER
Kimmy, Tony and Susan are at Lisa and Jay’s job.
“Geez Lisa, can’t you go any faster?” Tony complained. “I want to go to the arcade already!”
“Hey calm down Tony, we’ll get there eventually.” Susan and Kimmy said in unison.
“We’ll leave in a few minutes. I just need to get changed.” Lisa called.
Lisa is in the employee locker room getting changed. She opens the locker that she shares with two other employees and sees a thick envelope lying on top of her things.
“Hmm, that’s strange.” Lisa thinks to herself. “How did this get here? Does it belong to one of the other girls?”
Then Lisa notices that her name is written on the envelope in an untidy scrawl. With a jolt, Lisa remembered that the killer sent letters to the people he killed before he killed them. With trembling hands Lisa slowly opened the envelope…
“AHHHHH!!!” She screamed and then fainted.
Susan, Kimmy, and Tony ran into the locker room.
“What happened!!?” They all cried out when they ran into the locker room.
What they saw stopped them in their tracks, Lisa was on the floor holding an envelope and there were millions of flesh-eating ants all over her body. Susan also spied a human eyeball in the envelope.
Tony was the first one to break out of his trance, he shouted to Susan to turn on the shower, and he had Kimmy help him carry Lisa to the showers.
“Mmmm.” Lisa moaned, feeling the cold water on her face.
Having just finished his shift Jay came into the locker room.
“Oh hi guys, uh, what are you doing in the water Lisa?” Jay asked.
Lisa, fully conscious now, notices the envelope again. She picks it up and chills go down her spine. She sees that inside the envelope there is a human eye, and a letter, all the ants are gone.
Lisa pulled the letter out of the envelope and reads it. She stared at the letter in shock and allowed it to slide out of her hand and onto the floor. All that was on the piece of paper was two words, “You’re next.”
Tony, Susan, Kimmy and Jay looked at Lisa, then at the letter, and then at Lisa again.
“Oh, Lisa!” Kimmy cried, “This is terrible.”
“K-K-Kimmy, what am I going to do?!” Lisa stammered. “I don’t want to die yet...”
“I don’t know yet Lisa, don’t worry though, we’ll figure this out.” Kimmy said, trying to comfort Lisa.
“I have an idea,” said Jay.
“We can take Lisa to the deserted island south of here and hide there until the killer is brought to justice.” Jay suggested.
“Wow, Jay, that’s a really good idea!” Susan said praising Jay.
“However, I think that we should bring Taylor along.” Jay said.
Lisa frowned. “Why should we bring Taylor?”
“We should bring Taylor because his dad was a general in the military and Taylor is able to shoot a gun, use a knife and he also knows his way around the island.” Jay pointed out. “He would be an invaluable resource.”
“I agree.” Susan stated. “I think that we should plan on bringing some supplies with us, such as sleeping bags and matches.”
“When should we leave?” Lisa asked in a small voice.
“We should leave in three days.” Kimmy said.
“I agree. I’ll tell Taylor tonight.” Jay said.
So that was that, they all went home and Jay called Taylor.
THREE DAYS LATER
“Okay, are you guys ready?” Susan asked. “I have the keys to my mom’s boat so we can go when you’re all ready.”
“We’re ready.” Everyone said in unison.
Everyone climbed into the boat and Susan headed towards the island.
The island is around three miles wide and two miles long, it has thick vegetation and a small freshwater lake in the middle of the island. There is a rare bird on the island that can not be found anywhere else. Every time the birds squawk it sounds like they’re saying
“Danger! Danger!”
Susan brought the boat around to shore and everyone climbed out. Susan and Tony pulled the boat up the bank into the protection of the trees.
“Okay, now that we’re here we have to prepare a shelter.” Jay stated.
“I brought a few tents; we can use those for the time being.” Taylor suggested.
“Alright, good thinking Taylor; you, Jay, and Tony set up the tents. Susan, Lisa, follow me.” Kimmy ordered. “Grab those canteens from my bag, Lisa.”
Lisa grabbed the canteens and joined Susan in following Kimmy to the center of the island where they filled up the canteens with plenty of fresh water. Lisa smiled and thought to herself, “Wow, I’m lucky to have such good friends who are going this far to protect me. I can’t believe how safe I feel already and we just got here.”
Suddenly there came a cry from the trees,
“Danger! Danger!”
And in the distance there came a terrified scream,
“AHHHH!!!”
Kimmy gasped and dropped the canteen that she had been filling up.
“That sounded like Tony!!” she yelled in a worried voice. “Come on, lets go see what happened!!” she yelled, sprinting back to the beach.
Lisa and Susan shared a worried glance and ran as fast as they could back to the beach.
“Kimmy, wait for us!!” they shouted.
Suddenly Kimmy stopped dead in her tracks, and Lisa and Susan barely stopped in time to avoid crashing into her.
“Why did you stop?” Lisa asked, looking at Kimmy. Lisa was shocked to see tears in Kimmy’s eyes.
“What, why are you crying Kimmy?!” Susan exclaimed.
Kimmy just pointed to an area near the tents. Susan and Lisa gasped! It was Tony!! He was lying on his back in a pool of blood.
Susan and Lisa ran up to him; Susan, who had some medical training, checked his heartbeat and then let out a cry of anguish… Tony was dead!!! Lisa, who had figured out from Susan’s actions that something was very wrong, stood up and went to comfort Kimmy, who had collapsed to the floor in tears.
“TONY!!!” she cried; her anguished voice filling the air.
Susan, whose training had allowed her to keep a clear head, looked around for Taylor and Jay, who were nowhere to be found.
“Taylor!! Jay!! Where are you!?” Susan yelled as loud as she could.
Susan quieted down for a moment and listened for a reply. She then jumped up and ran to the trees a little ways off for she thought she had heard something. But then there was silence. Susan went and looked around the trees and when she passed a giant sycamore tree at the edge of a clearing she saw Taylor, or what was left of Taylor. Blood was splattered across the giant tree trunk with Taylor’s mutilated body lying limp across the floor with his own knife buried deep into his chest slicing through where his heart once beat, his lower body was missing.
Lisa came into the clearing dragging Kimmy and said, “Susan? Where are you?” in a worried voice.
“I’m over here.” She managed to choke out. “And I found Taylor, or part of Taylor that is.”
Lisa found Susan and looked at Taylor’s mangled body in shock. “What happened to him!?”
“I don’t know; all I know is that we need to find Jay and fast!”
Kimmy looked up and saw Taylor and gave a cry of shock and almost fainted.
“Kimmy, pull yourself together!” Susan scolded. “I know it must be very painful to lose your best friend but crying won’t help him now!”
Kimmy sniffed and nodded. “You’re right...” she said. “But it hurts so much!”
“It’s okay Kimmy.” Lisa said in a comforting voice. “Tony and Taylor are in a better place now, do you remember that they were Christians? They’re in heaven and will be fine.”
That seemed to make Kimmy feel a little bit better, she wiped away her tears and said, “Okay, I’m better now, thank you; Lisa, Susan, let’s go look for Jay!”
However, right when they where about to go looking for Jay, they heard someone crashing through the trees. They stiffened and to their surprise it was Jay!!
“Jay!!” Lisa shouted with joy. “You’re alive!!”
“Of course I’m alive.” Jay said. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
Susan and Lisa quickly filled him in on finding Tony by the tents and showed him Taylor by the trees. Jay looked extremely surprised and then he looked worried.
“Lisa,” Jay called, “can I talk to you in private for a moment?”
Lisa curiously looked at Jay and followed him behind some trees. Jay whispered, “Lisa, I think the killer is here, on the island with us.”
“W-w-what are you talking about, Jay, there’s no one alive on this island but you, me, Kimmy, and Susan. “ Lisa stated.
“Well then, I guess that means the killer is one of us.” Jay said.
“One of us, the killer? That is preposterous!” Lisa stammered. “Or is it?” Lisa thought to herself. “Maybe Jay is right; he’s usually never wrong. Ahh!! I don’t know! You know what, I think Jay is right! It has to be one of my so-called friends on this island!”
“What are we going to do Jay?” Lisa whined.
“This is what we’re going to do Lisa, we’re going to tell the others our suspicions and see who gets nervous. That person is the killer for sure!!”
“Wow! That’s a great idea Jay!” Lisa said.
So Jay and Lisa went back to the others and said “Susan, Kimmy we need to talk to you guys later tonight okay?”
“Uh okay?” Susan and Kimmy said looking at them Jay and Lisa strangely. Susan grabbed the knife from Taylor’s body and said to Kimmy, “In case we need it.”
Later that night Lisa, Susan, Kimmy and Jay met at the tents and then Jay said to them,
“Listen Susan, Kimmy; Lisa and I have reason to believe that one of us here is the killer.”
There was a gasp of disbelief as Kimmy stared at Jay in horror.
“Jay, how can you suggest such a thing; how can any of us be the killer?!” Kimmy cried out. “We are all friends here and we all care about each other! There is no way any of us could be the killer!”
“I’m sure that’s how you feel Kimmy, but I’m just saying that one of us can be the killer okay? What other explanation is there? How did Taylor and Tony end up dead if none of us killed them?! You see what my point of view is Kimmy? How do you want me to think?!” Jay shrieked at her.
“You know what,” Susan said, “I think that we should all go to sleep and talk about this in the morning okay?”
So Kimmy, and Lisa went into one tent, Susan went into the second and Jay went and slept in the third. In the middle of the night Susan stirred but did not completely wake up, she thought she heard something but was too tired to wake up.
In the morning there came a scream from Lisa and Kimmy’s tent. Susan’s eyes snapped open, it was Lisa!! Susan ran to Lisa’s tent and saw Jay was already there holding Lisa in his arms and looking at Susan accusingly. Lisa was staring at Kimmy’s sleeping bag and crying. Susan followed Lisa’s gaze and gasped! It was Kimmy! She had a knife stuck in her neck. Susan knew that she was dead even before she saw Kimmy’s lifeless eyes. Then Susan let out a startled cry, the knife that was in her neck was the same knife that Susan had pulled out of Taylor’s lifeless body! How did it get there?!
Susan, completely shocked and terrified at Kimmy’s death ran to the spring to wash her face and to calm down. “This can not be happening!!” Susan thought. “Jay was right, someone on this island is the killer and its either Jay or Lisa; but which one is it! It can’t be Lisa because she was threatened by the killer. But it could be Lisa because she may have just threatened herself to make it seem like she is the victim! That’s it! I’m going to confront Lisa and make her tell me the truth!!”
Susan heard a twig snap and turned around quickly, Lisa! She was standing less than three feet away from Susan holding the knife, pointing it at her! Lisa’s tearstained face was looking judgmentally at Susan. She had a resolved look in her eye.
“Why?” Lisa said. “Why did you kill them Susan?!”
“What!?” Susan cried out. “What are you talking about you are the one who killed them; Tony, Taylor and now Kimmy, they’re all dead because of you!! You killed them!! You’re the killer!!” Susan yelled!
“AHH!!” Lisa cried out. “I’ll stop those lies from coming out of your murdering mouth!!” Lisa shouted as she brandished the knife and charged at Susan!
Susan had always been the faster of the two and she quickly ducked and rolled out of Lisa’s path. Lisa was going to fall in the lake! Lisa abruptly swerved and then she slipped!! Susan waited for Lisa to get up and when Lisa didn’t Susan warily tiptoed over to her and was surprised to see a pool of red. When Lisa slipped she fell on the knife Susan realized. “That means that the killer is dead!! Yes!!” Susan thought.
Susan ran back to the tents to tell Jay. “Jay, Jay!!” Susan yelled. “I figured it out! Lisa was the killer, Jay!”
Jay is facing the tents with his back to Susan. He says to her, “Wow, Susan, you are a really good detective unfortunately the killer was not Lisa.”
This stopped Susan in her tracks, “What?” she said…”What do you mean? Of course she was the killer; she tried to kill me…”
“That’s because, like you did to her, she assumed you were the killer.” Jay answered matter of factly.
“W-w-what are you talking about?! That would mean that..!” Susan said.
“That I’m the killer? Oh you barely figured that out? I’ve got to say I’m disappointed.” Jay chuckled.
Jay turned around and Susan gasped when she saw that Jay had Taylor’s gun in his hand.
“Oh well, you’ve been fun Susan, but I’ve got to kill you now.” Jay lifted up Taylor’s gun and shot Susan directly in the heart. Jay stood directly over Susan and laughed.
