Witchcraft, in any form, for a long time had been despised among humans. Many of those such people had been tried, convicted, and killed for practicing such a 'dark art' by zealous religious peoples attempting to gain control over a populous. Witches and warlocks alike had begun fleeing, seeking refuge where ever they could. Most would live in the mountains, or deep in forests where they felt safest. Some even used their magic to help them live underground. Anywhere that the general person would avoid being. This made them seem more evil, more desired to be squashed out of the world.
Fortunately, not all places would condemn these practices to death. Few and far between where villages where these people were given sanctuary. Some gave it to have a useful magic-user in their village, and others simply to be kind. These 'kind' villages generally had inhabitants that would scoff the powers, thus bringing bad tidings to themselves if ever spoke in public.
One such family was the Aiogiri family. They tolerated these magic users only so much. During a time of famine, illness usually spread rampant through villages, killing off the old, young, and poor. The Aiogiri was of no means 'rich', but were better off than most. They suffered few deaths in their family, and most of them were older members close to death as it was. There was another, who had lost a small infant, who was a practicer of magic. The mother of the infant was a witch, known to be kind and help others with her powers. All the powers she possessed were not enough to save her child, nor anyone from whatever illness had brought them down. A snide comment about this from a woman who, after the illness passed and the village returned to normal, became withchild caused this witch to set a curse upon the family.
"From now until the end, Until you show mercy, A curse upon thee, Shall destroy the innocent. A woman bearing a child, Shall fall before her time. A remnant of your hatred, Forever she shall decline."
To this family, it sounded like babble. Until slowly, but surely, the curse began to come true. Woman after woman would fall victim to the very same illness that had taken the life of the innocent infant. Each woman would die so many years after her child had been born, sooner if she had more children. With too much pride to ask for help to break the spell, it went on for generations. Some women had simply not gotten pregnant while others refused to believe the truth and kept reproducing.
All too soon, this curse was forgotten. Ideally, it should have broke at the first marriage between this family and a magical being, a faerie of the Seelie court to be exact, it continued. The problem being it had never been addressed properly and continued on. Many of the magical men who married into this family tried for years to figure out this curse, but none prevailed at removing it.
Years passed, a woman named Angelica gave birth to a set of twin girls. This woman was born of magic and gave birth to girls who would also have the magic. She knew very little of the curse, but enough to know what it did which caused her to agonize at the fact she had female twins. One twin was stolen from her, coincidentally, by a descendent of the first witch. Or even possibly that witch herself. It was never known for sure. This girl was never found by her parents, while the second lived on, named Moonglow.
Moonglow grew, told lightly of the curse from as much as her mother knew before she passed on of the effects. And just like her mother, went on to have children anyway. Her husband, grieved by her death, poured over texts and tomes to find a cure when he met her sister. Their meeting was fortunate, as they had met before and previously been in love. She healed the wound of his first wife in time and they soon were married. Her name was Rhys, and the only startlingly difference between her twins and herself was that her eyes were gold instead of purple. Kai had discovered a possibility of lifting this curse, which was simply reciting her love of magic, acceptance of this magic, and an apology to the magic itself. No one knows for sure if it worked, as after the battle of Hell, Rhys was never seen again along with her child and the children of Moonglow.
The importance of this curse is that it is attached to the bloodline that flows in the veins of our lovely Sohalia Finley. She knows absolutely nothing of this curse, as she knows nothing of her bloodline. Only time will tell if the curse was broken, or if it is still attached to the blood.
