Chapter 6:The Bad News
"The bad news is that.."The doctor tried to finish but Sora interupted him.
"Is she dying?"He asked.
Riku: Why is that the first thing that comes to mind for you?
Sora: Duh. It’s a soap opera. Of course she’s dying.
"Possibly."The doctor said sadly,Sora had tears in his eyes..Kairi didn't know what to say.
"What's causing this?"Sora choked out.
"She has cancer..but the good thing is that we caught it in time,If we found this later on,it would've been too late."The doctor said.
Axel: That is rich. *laughs* Cancer. Whoo!
Kairi: So, what? They can detect cancer as part of a paternity test now?
"Will the baby be ok?"Kairi asked.
"Kairi.."Sora said quitely.
"Sora I want to know,I want to save the baby instead of me."She said and she started to cry.
Riku: ...... This may not be the best time to say this, but wasn’t she already crying?
"Yes,the baby will be ok.But if you take this certain perscription,you will be healthy again."The doctor said.
Axel: But what is the prescription?
Riku: I always thought chemo had to be delivered intravenously.
Larxene: Not always. It depends.
"Will it affect the b-baby?"She asked and she dried her eyes.
"No...It will take care of the cancer."He told her.
Sora: *reads from the Internet* “Chemotherapy is toxic and capable of harming the fetus, particularly if given during the first trimester of pregnancy when the fetus' organs are still developing. Chemotherapy during the first trimester can cause birth defects or miscarriage (early pregnancy loss). During the second and third trimesters, chemotherapy can be taken without harming the fetus.”
Larxene: Unfortunately for everyone, Kairi is only two months pregnant. *claps hands together*
Kairi: So much for that.
"Ok."She said and she looked at Sora,She noticed that he wasn't too happy.
"I'll give you the medicine..Just walk over to the counter and I'll get it ready for you."The doctor said.
"Ok"She said and she followed him,Sora pulled her wrist.
"Kairi...I don't think you should do this."He said.
Kairi: I don’t blame him, the kid’s gonna have horrible birth defects...
Sora: If it survives...
Riku: And apparently, all you have to do is wait a few months for it to be safe...
Larxene: *chants quietly* Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it! ...
"Sora,I want to save me and the baby,This is our only chance..If I don't take this then I'll d-die."She said.
"What if he lied,What if you die before the baby is born."He said.
"Sora...Doctor's never lie,My mom went throught this..with me."She said.
Axel: Well, yeah, they don’t lie usually, but they have been known to make mistakes now and again...
"And your mom is still alive."
"Yes...She took the same kind of medicine...I know what cancer it is because she went throught the same problem."
Kairi: ... despite that the doctor never told me what kind of cancer it is.
"Ok..What kind is it?"He asked.
"Bone cancer."(A/n I couldn't think of a type of cancer so I hope this is ok...Don't get mad at me because I can't think of any kind..)
Axel: *counts on his fingers* Breast cancer. Lung cancer. Throat cancer. Thyroid cancer. Pancreatic cancer. Ovarian cancer. Brain cancer. Cervical cancer. Colon cancer. Stomach cancer.
Sora: We get the point, Axel.
"That's a good thing they caught it in time."Sora said and he kissed her lightly.
"Yeah.."She said and they walked over to the counter.
"Here you go..now only take one pill each day..if you don't then it may affect the baby."The doctor said and he handed her the medicine.
Kairi: What may affect the baby? The cancer or the medicine?
Larxene: *shrugs* Both?
"Thank you."She said and she handed him the money.
Riku: Or the munny, as it were.
"Thanks."Sora said and he shook the doctor's hand.
"I want you to come back in a few weeks and see if everything is ok."He said.
"Ok,Thanks again."Kairi said and her and Sora started walking.
"Hopefully this works."Sora said.
"It will."Kairi said and she grabbed his hand.
Axel: Of course it will... the author knows absolutely jack about cancer.
