Skyler walked through the halls alone that Monday morning. Today, though she was usually a very friendly person, she just wanted to be alone. A few people smiled and waved at her as she picked her way through the crowed to her locker. She put on her best smile and waved back. When hey turned away she frowned and continued towards her locker.
It was Saturday night, around 11:00. She got home late from work, and after setting her things down, she headed across the hall to her boyfriend Chris’s apartment. They had given each other keys so she unlocked the door and stepped inside. Chris was on the couch, with another girl from school. Skyler gasped and quickly slipped out the door. They hadn’t even looked up. She went back home and locked herself in her room.
As Skyler turned the corner, she saw Chris standing at her locker waiting for her. She quickly turned around and went the other way. He caught up with her. “Where are you going, Sky?” He asked, putting his arm around her shoulders. “Nowhere” She replied coldly, shrugging out from under his arm. “I see” He replied grabbing her hand. Skyler sighed and pulled her hand away, stuffing it in her pocket. Chris stared at her. “Ok, we need to talk” He said, grabbing her wrist and pulling her behind him as he headed for the nearest exit. Skyler rolled her eyes but followed obediently.
Chris pushed the door open and roughly pulled her outside. He turned to look at her and placed his hands on her shoulders, holding her still. Skyler struggled a bit but gave up when he didn’t let go. Chris glared at her. “What is your problem?” He demanded. “I don’t have a problem” she replied quietly, avoiding his eyes. “Yes you do” he said, raising his voice “What is with you this morning?” Skyler stayed silent and stared at the ground. Chris grabbed her chin, forcing her to look up at him. “Tell me, Sky” he demanded.
“If you must know, I found you cheating on me Saturday night.” She said. His face went blank. He dragged her away from the school building, and out towards the football field. When they got there, he yanked on her arm, spinning her around to face him. “You were saying?” He snapped at her. “I found you cheating on me Saturday night” she replied, not meeting his eyes. “Oh, so you saw that?” He said coldly. “Mhmm” Skyler mumbled. “It’s over.”
“What?!” Chris yelled. “I cheat on you once and you break up with me?” He dropped her arm and glared at her. “Well you know what? I don’t need you. You mean nothing to me” Skyler looked up at him “Good” she said coldly “I don’t need you either.” Chris’s face turned red. “You don’t need me?” he exploded “You’re nothing without me!” The bell rang. “Leave, Chris” Skyler said coldly. “Don’t tell me what to do, you useless little loser!” Chris shouted in her face as he turned to leave. Suddenly, he turned back around and shoved her, causing her to fall backward onto the grass. He turned and stomped toward school.
Skyler didn’t get up. She rolled over onto her side and curled up into a ball. A single tear slid down her face as she watched the boy she thought she loved walk away. She wiped her eyes and sat up. “I don’t need him” She whispered sadly to herself.
