Lauren walked toward the apartment building, carrying her three suitcases. She had turned 18 yesterday, and this morning her father had decided to kick her out. Lauren had expected him to, so a few weeks ago she started researching apartments. She had a job, but it didn’t pay much. The only way she could afford the rent was if she had a roommate.
She pushed the door open and walked into the quiet lobby. It was clean, but a bit dark inside. It had a high ceiling, red walls, and not many windows. She walked over to the desk at the back of the lobby. A lady with a warm smile and blonde curls greeted her. “May I help you?” She asked politely. “Uhmm yes.” Lauren replied. “My name is Lauren Miller. I am moving into room 35.” The woman smiled “Oh, yes. Here is your key.” “Thanks” Lauren turning to go to the elevator. “Wait miss.” The woman added quickly. Lauren turned back around. “Yeah?” “You are aware that you have a roommate, correct?” “Yeah, I am. Thanks” Lauren said smiling.
She picked up her three heavy bags and stepped into the elevator. She hit the button for the third floor. She hummed quietly to herself as the elevator slowly ascended. Lauren stopped humming as the doors opened and stepped out of the elevator and into the hall. She walked down the hall, spotting room 35 near the end. She shifted so all three bags were in one hand and knocked twice before letting herself in. “Hello?” Lauren called setting the heavy bags down on the living room rug. She walked over to the window and sat down on the window seat. She looked down at the street below, waiting to meet her roommate.
