This is a story that I came up with after listening to the song "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" by The Script on xl106.7. It's about two of my friends, the girl being my best friend. It's about a guy who's sitting on this corner somewhere (New York City for realistic purposes) waiting on this girl to come back. I instantly thought of these two people (no names given at this time) when I heard the song and had to write a one-shot about them. So here it is.
The Man Who Won't Be Moved
I trudged down the sidewalks of New York City in the snow, my sleeping bag slung over my shoulder, a bag in my hand. Like everyone else I had on a dark parka with my jeans. I cut across traffic to the other side of the street and moved towards the corner where I first saw her.
Going back to the corner where I first saw you Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move
I sat down the sleeping bag and cleared away some of the snow before sitting down. I opened the bag and pulled out the square of cardboard and a sharpie. I scribbled the words 'tell her where I am' and slid the edge under the sleeping bag. I pulled out my watch, looking at the time. 2:16 in the afternoon.
Got some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand Saying if you see this girl can you tell her were I am
I pull out her picture, faded with time. I smile dispite the circumstances that have brought to me to our corner. Her eyes are wide with excitement and her smile is broad. I wonder what she's thinking about.
Some try to hand me money, the don't understand I'm not broke I'm just a broken hearted man
A few people have held out a few dollars in change. I shake my head every time, holding out her picture, begging for them to tell her where I am. My heart beats unevenly without her here to count the steps.
I know it makes no sense, but what else can I do How can I move on when I've been in love with you
I need you to come back to me. Come running to our corner where I first saw you. On the corner of the street where I fell in love with you sweetheart. I'm shouting to strangers and praying to the skies, begging for you.
'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
I've got no idea where she is, but all I know is that I want her to come back to me. So I'm going to sit here on this corner, waiting for her to wake up and want me back too. People bring me money and food, and I try to explain that all I want is you.
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet And you'd see me wating for you on the corner of the street
I'm daydreaming about the first day I saw you. You were with your best friend and I was with mine. When our eyes met my heart began pounding, wanting to give itself to you.
So I'm not moving I'm not moving
People are asking me where I wanna go, and I always reply 'to her, the girl who has my heart'. They look upon me with pity and scorn, but they just don't understand what you mean to me.
Policeman says son you can't stay here I said there's someone I'm waiting for if it's a day, a month, a year
It's been four days and people are starting to recognize me. A police car rounds the corner almost everyday, probably wondering if I'll ever move. I'll wait for her here at our corner if it's a million years.
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go
I'm day dreaming about all the ways you could come back to me. No matter if its a plane a bus or train, I don't care as long as you end up with me.
'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Maybe your best friend will call you up this afternoon. You'll tell her you have to see me. Of course you don't know that I'm on our corner of the street.
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet And you see me waiting for you on the corner of the street
You two will speculate that I wouldn't sit out on that corner for so long. But I have and I'm not moving till you come running back to me. My dear I'm the man who won't be moved.
So I'm not moving I'm not moving
Haven't moved and now the snow is falling again weeks later. I've made a new sign and your picture is still in my hand. People just don't understand that I want you back in my life.
I'm not moving I'm not moving
Reporters have caught sight of me and now everyone's talking about that man who can't be moved. The police have had to push 'em away, but they don't even bother with me, 'cause they know I'm not moving.
People talk about the guy Who's waiting on a girl, oh whoa
Maybe your best friend will call you again. She'll have seen me on the news and tell you to turn on the TV. You'll see me on our corner with my sleeping bag. You'll realize I've been waiting on you.
There are no holes in his shoes But a big hole in his world
Oh my love, why can't you come running to our corner. I've been waiting on you, as the man who can't be moved.
Maybe I'll get famous as the man who can't be moved And maybe you won't mean to but you'll see me on the news
I don't care for these cameras or these crowds of admirers. The only person I'll ever need is you, oh why can't you come running to the corner?
And you'll come running to the corner 'Cause you'll know it's just for you
I've been sitting at this corner, just waiting on you. All of me has been left with you. I just want you to come back to me.
I'm the man who can't be moved I'm the man who can't be moved
Hopefully you won't deny me your love, and hopefully you come to me once more. I'm praying for miracles I've got no right asking for.
'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
There's a big hole in my chest where my heart ought to be, but my hearts with you and I've got no idea where on Earth you could be. That's why I'm sitting on this corner, hoping you'll come back to me.
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we meet Oh, you see me waiting for you on a corner of the street
We used to meet here all the time. Won't you come meet me here one more time?
So I'm not moving ('Cause if one day you wake up, find that you're missing me)
I won't move, no I can not move till you come running back to me.
I'm not moving (And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be)
Oh my sweet Caroline, won't you come running back here to the corner where I'm waitng on you.
I'm not moving (Thinking maybe you'll come back here ot the place that we'd meet)
Someone asked me what I'm wishing for. I told that I'm wishing for you to come running back to me once more.
I'm not moving (Oh, you see me waiting for you on a corner of the street)
I'm praying once more, but it seems to be no avail. I'm hoping God hears my prays and sends me the only thing I need. But I'm waiting here, I'm not moving till I see you running to our corner.
Going back to the corner where I first saw you Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move
I hope you like this story, and constructive criticism is welcome. I just had to share it with you all. ENJOY!! mrgreen ~DCF
