For reasons beyond my comprehension - and to my extreme boredom, for the record - i'm forced to add to this neverending list of paperwork and files about the so called "Zane Savage Case" my own file. so yeah, stick with me, person from the future, where there's no paperwork, cars fly, you can't swear, you have to use three seashells to wipe yourself up and bureaucracy is extinct.

My name is Chase Merigold. used to be Chase Linh, but then i dropped my father's name when he died and i discovered his past while i was working on the Central City Police Department (That's CCPD for you, in case you wonder). back at the time i was just a beat cop, mostly doing parking meter jobs, but then i had to chase someone who just stole a rare Lamborghini Jalpa from an auction, and unfortunately, the man at the wheel was my own father, Jason Linh. so i took my mother's name, Merigold. i like the sound of it.

I was assigned to this case mostly because the CCPD thinks that Zane Savage has some links to fishy people around the city. we don't know who or where or when, but there's a saying back in Apple Valley: Ripe Oranges on the side of the road, are rotten down or have bees around. and i can smell that deep down to his core, he's as rotten as they come. of course, gut feeling has the same weight of nothing on a case, but my gut feeling never let me down so far, so i'm confident i can stick something on him. again, the guy's revered as a saint and i'm almost forbidden to say something against him in public. but still, these are the guys you should worry about - after all, we never got Capone by the kills, but by the IRS, right?

Right. and he leaves a paper trail behind, like if he just wanted to make me mad. and the paper trail always leads straight to him. and it's always pristine. no smoking gun, no backroom, no backstabbing, no nothing - doesn't matter what i think i may have on him, i always end up on a dead end. but i'm sure that's about to change. I don't care how much it takes, how long it takes, who or what i may have to face to find the truth, i will. because that's why they saw it on me to become an inspector.

Most guys spend their careers being beat cops or desk pilots, not me. i fought hard for this. broke parking ticket records three times, did more overtime in a single month than the entire district combined, more evidence turned in than they could handle. because i'm madly in love with justice. and now, i don't care what you do, Zane Savage, but know this: You're in the sights of the inspector. - Insp.
