When I woke up, I found myself on dry land. I sat up and saw a young man with his back turned towards me tending to a fire. He turned around, "Oh! So you're up. You gave me quite a scare back there Yuki."
What? Yuki? What the ... "Who are you?"
He looked hurt. Maybe I do know him, and he did look a little familiar. I couldn't quite place a name with his face. The man sat came over and sat down next to me. "Jeez ... That really hurts. I mean, it's not like we've known eachother since we were kids ..."
"Sorry ... I got hit on the head. I can't remember anything ... Wait ..." Suddenly, a flood of memories began pouring back into my brain, and then I could remember who he was to me. "Takashi!!"
He nodded. "Yep! Looks like we got a few steps in. Okay, so what's the farthest memory you can remember?"
I sat back to think. Now I could remember everything that happened in my life, including my oldest childhood memories and my own name, but I still couldn't remember everything that happened earlier on that day. I looked over at him, "Well ... Remember that one time ... Back when we were about ... five? And you ..."
"Okay okay okay okay ... You don't need to remind me about that!!! So ... You remember your past I take it??"
I nodded, "Yes. I know who I am and all that, but everything that happened earlier this morning ... None of that. I don't know why I can't remember."
He gave me a stern look, "Can you remember anything that happened up until now?"
I looked right back into his eyes and explained everything that happened that I could remember; about the tree, the stream, and the creature.
Takashi leaned back, brushed his hand through his spikey blue hair and sighed, "So you didn't defeat it then."
I looked at him in confusion, "What?? Defeat it??? What do you mean by that??"
He looked up and the sky and sighed again, "That's what you're forgetting. This morning you were assigned by the community to take care of it, and as your partner I'm to go with you of course. We came here and found it by that tree that you were explaining to me. We engaged in battle and the tree got knocked over, and just as we were about to finish it off, it created some sort of magical barrier thing, so as we jumped at it and attacked, we both were sent flying in opposite directions. And based on what I remember from the way you collided, I think you fell unconcious as soon as you hit. And I also see you hit you head pretty badly which could explain why you're having memory trouble."
I looked down at the ground. As he began explaining things, they all started coming back to me; as if I never forgot them at all. It was scary, I don't know why. "So, what are we going to do about the monster?"
"Well," he said as he laid down, "It's best we get it ASAP, before it wrecks more havoc within the neighboring villages. But right now, it's late and we should be getting some rest. And if you're hungry, there's food next to you."
I looked over to my left and saw that there was indeed food. I quickly at my dinner, then laid back down and went to sleep.
